How to check wordpress plugin for eval-base64 hack

Base64 is a group of similar binary-to-text encoding schemes that represent binary data in an ASCII string format by translating it into a radix-64 representation. The term Base64 originates from a specific MIME content transfer encoding.

Navigate to the plugin’s folder and run the following command:

grep -R ‘eval’ *

To decode the eval code you can use this online base64 decoder

I’ve promised myself I’d keep this installed for awhile and I’m glad I did. Running a lightweight distro on a IvyBridge i7 with an SSD is overkill but I don’t have to wait for anything.

Create virtual host in Apache

First, create a virtual host record e.g create a file with the following linux command:

touch /etc/apache2/sites-available/example.com

This fill create a empty file. Next, add the following record:

<VirtualHost *:80>

    DocumentRoot /home/www/example.com

    ServerName example.com

</VirtualHost>

Enable the new apache virtual host with the following linux command:

# a2ensite example.com

Restart apache:

/etc/init.d/apache2 restart
